No One Cares If You’ve Never Heard Of Fiverr
I seem to be ranting a lot these days, but here we go
--
I’m one of those freelancers that does a little bit of everything.
Pretty much all of my income (at least 90%) comes from internet-based endeavors, mostly teaching and tutoring. Even when I tutor in person, I probably met the learner or the parents via a website. My summer goal, considering fewer learners want math instruction this time of year, is to increase the portion of my income that comes from writing.
So far, I’m earning loose change on Medium. I’m not consistently paying off my Medium membership — yet. My blogs are all works in progress, also not meeting their expenses. I’ve earned $2.67 from 2022 thus far in the Amazon affiliate program.
Fiverr membership, on the other hand, is free — they take a 20% cut once you actually sell a gig — and I’ll have made $20 as soon as this outstanding order (already delivered to positive feedback) gets finalized. I use free Google Documents to write and share my work. If necessary, I use the Canva membership I’m already paying for to make no-extra-cost images (affiliate link, if you’ve ever been tempted to sign up with Canva — I use it constantly).
I’m actually quite optimistic about selling my services via Fiverr.
I mentioned this to a loved one (I’m not naming names to protect the guilty, but it was someone at the immediate family member/therapist/BFF level of closeness).
Their response was, “Who cares? I’ve never heard of Fiver. Oh, two R’s, huh? It sounds stupid. Who has even heard of Fiverr? You’ll never make any money there.”
Let me get this straight. You, with your full-time office job and no interest in side-hustles or internet gigs whatsoever, have never heard of Fiverr? Wow, that’s a terrible harbinger of all sorts of evil. I should quit Fiverr right away.
